Bharti Airtel partners with RGK Mobile for carrier billing services

January 11, 2018

Bharti Airtel has entered into a strategic deal with Spanish m-commerce services provider RGK Mobile for direct billing services for digital content delivery to its subscribers. It has been learnt that both companies are likely to sign a formal pact soon. As per the agreement between the two companies, RGK Mobile will offer digital content subscription and mobile payment aggregation services to Airtel’s customers, in addition to distribution, local content licensing and fraud monitoring solutions.

According to the company, the alliance will ease the operator from the burden of generating and managing mobile content, including technical integration, local content licensing and traffic acquisition. With the deal, Airtel’s customers can purchase content services with subscription and the requests would go directly to the operator’s billing system.

Moreover, RGK Mobile has stated that the current deal with Airtel will cover the entire Indian market, with an option to expand to other locations in South East Asia in the future. It is expected to announce 10 new direct carrier billing and content distribution deals with telecom players in the Asia-Pacific region. Further, the company stated that its business model will be based on a revenue share per service purchase. It added that the adoption of new content channels would lead telecom service providers to attain substantially higher average revenue per user (ARPU). It pointed that operators across the globe have been witnessing falling ARPU’s, with the main reason being the tough competition to their traditional voice and text model from services introduced by various over-the-top (OTT) service players.
