DoT to spend Rs 107.43 billion to improve connectivity in North East India

The government will invest Rs 107.43 billion in various projects for improving the telecommunication network in the northeastern states and along the National Highways in the region. Further, most of these projects will be completed by December 2018. The Telecom Commission in its recent meeting has approved a comprehensive strategy to implement BharatNet project in the northeast region. Under the strategy 4,240 gram panchayats in the northeast will be made broadband-enabled through satellite connectivity by December 2018. Further, DoT pointed that under comprehensive telecom development project for northeast region, 6,673 towers will be set up to provide connectivity to 8,621 villages and along the National Highways.
